Description of the item

The Bronze Star Medal is a United States decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for heroic or meritorious achievement or service during World War II and subsequent conflicts.

During World War II, the Bronze Star Medal was primarily awarded for acts of heroism or merit in ground combat operations, although it could also be awarded for meritorious service in a non-combat role.

The Bronze Star Medal features a bronze star with a raised center surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves. The reverse side of the medal bears the inscription "HEROIC OR MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT" and a space for the recipient's name to be engraved.

The Bronze Star Medal was designed by Rudolf Freund (1878 - 1960) of the jewelry firm Bailey, Banks & Biddle. It consists of a bronze star 38 mm in circumscribing diameter. In the center is a 4.8 mm diameter superimposed bronze star, the center line of all rays of both stars coinciding.

The Bronze Star Medal is often referred to simply as the "Bronze Star" and is one of the most commonly awarded medals of the United States military. It has been awarded to tens of thousands of individuals for their service and sacrifice during World War II and subsequent conflicts.

Private collection

Most of the items displayed here come from my private collection. Except for major documents which are impossible to have. All the items always have so much history attached to them. This made me try and build up a tiny collection of which a few items are on displayed here. As, at least how I see it, this history of World War 2 needs to be preserved for future generations.
